The Stone People are all physical matter: not only rocks and crystals but water, air, mountains, the sea and the stars, and the elements that make up every living body. They are the oldest of the PeoplesThe Peoples. The Animal People, Plant People, Standing People (the Trees) and Stone People: our elder kin, of whom the Human People are the youngest and least wise. A family, not a hierarchy. Read the full answer, as old as the universe, alive and conscious in a way utterly different from ours, and like every kind of being they carry healing gifts and teaching, given freely to any human who asks.
What are the Stone People? #
Far more than stones. “The Stone People are not just rocks, stones and crystals. They are physical matter.” In their simplest form they are the chemical elements, solids, liquids and gases, and everything made from them, including the things Taker society thinks of as non-living, “rocks and stones, of course, but also water, the air, sand, soil, and so on.”1 They are also “things like Quartz Crystals and Mountains, Stars and the Sea.”2
Every living body is made of them too. “All physical things are Stone People, temporarily experiencing a particular form. They may be other things as well, Plant, Animal or Human, but they are nonetheless Stone People too.” Someone once beautifully called Animals and Humans ‘the Stone People dancing’. When we die, “our body goes back to the Stone People.”3
How old are the Stone People? #
As old as the universe. “The Stone People are the oldest of all the People, by a very long way. They are literally as old as the universe itself.” The hydrogen and helium created at the Big Bang, around 13.8 billion years ago, gathered into vast clouds, and some of those clouds collapsed to form the first stars.4 In the family of the Peoples, “Hunter-gatherers say that the oldest and wisest of the Peoples by far are the Stone People.”5
They are also Mother EarthMother Earth. The sacred Feminine pole: pure potential, from whom all the Peoples arise. The Lower-World is her realm, and she is all the realms: “The Earth is indeed our Mother.” More about this’s first children: “The Stone People are the first of Yin’s children. Or looked at another way, they are Mother Earth manifest and made physical. In turn, the Stone People go on to form everything else in the physical universe”.
Are Stone People alive and conscious? #
Yes, but in a way very hard for us to recognise. “The Stone People are, of course, themselves conscious and alive, just in a way that is very, very different to us. Way more different to us than Plant is. Off the scale different. So much so, that these days, most modern humans do not even perceive them as being alive at all.” Hunter-gatherers did: “They knew the mountain was alive and had to be treated with honour and respect. So too the rivers, the rocks and the waterfalls.”6
On the spectrum between self-awareness and collective awareness, “the Stone People are the ultimate in collective-awareness; at the opposite end of the spectrum to us.”7 That is why people trapped in a human-centred view of the world struggle to see them as conscious at all. See What does it mean to say the world is alive and full of persons?
What are the Stone People like? #
The mineral remedy provings point to a consistent nature: still, immobile, passive, unhurried, non-competitive, structured, organised, systematic, regular, predictable, practical and detached.8 Stone is not always slow, though: “the sea is one of the Stone People, and is in visible and constant motion, as are rivers and waterfalls”, and lava, earthquakes and winds can be fast.
Above all, the Stone People are in no hurry. “They really do have all the time in the world; literally, all the time in the universe. They really have seen it all, because they have actually been it all. They have nothing to compete with, and nothing to worry about.” They are unflappable, never swept up in emotions, and “in many ways, they are Mother Earth made physical”, existing already in perfect balance.9
How did the Stone People get their healing gifts? #
Through the great council of all the Peoples. In the traditional story, the Animal People planned to wipe the Humans out for their disrespect of Mother Earth, and the Stone and Plant People called a council and said this was forbidden. “So, at the council, every type of Plant, Animal and Stone agreed to take on a healing gift and teaching, and to give this freely to any human who asked for it.”10 The Plant and Stone People “are the oldest and wisest of all the People. They have no egos, and so have the most compassion and wisdom, and are closest to Great SpiritGreat Mystery (Great Spirit). The unknowable from which everything comes. Better rendered ‘the Great Mystery’: animism has no interventionist creator-god, and the truly infinite cannot be prayed to, bargained with or journeyed to. More about this.”11
What gifts do the Stone People bring? #
Each kind of Stone has its own medicine, and as a whole Stone teaches perspective. Because of their timescale and their calm, unemotional nature, the Stone People can seem supremely detached, “and this is part of their teaching. They do show us that, in the great scale of things, a lot of the middle-worldMiddle-world. Ordinary physical reality together with its energetic layers: the realm of individuality, separation and mixed intentions, and the only realm where harm is possible. “If there is a hell, then it is the middle-world.” Read the full answer stuff that we get caught up in and agitated about really does not matter. When needed, they can help us step back from our human middle-world stories, entanglementsEntanglement. An unhealthy energetic tie hooking us into another person, a role, an object or a family story; released by disentanglement. More about this, agendas and emotional responses.”12
In journeys, the Stone People can also heal directly. Going underground in the Lower-WorldLower-World. The realm of Mother Earth: pure, unspoilt, wild nature, with no technology and no agriculture. Home of the Peoples and of our own Soul, and completely safe: feeling threatened in a journey is a reliable sign of not having reached it. Read the full answer can lead to chambers made of a particular Rock or Crystal, “powerful places to go if you want to work with Rocks and Crystals, as just by being in them you can soak up and absorb their specific healing medicine.” A Stone’s OversoulOversoul. A branch of Mother Earth representing the whole of a species: the single being all the individuals arise from. Lower-World work is always with the Oversoul, never an individual; environments are composite Oversouls, wheels within wheels. More about this may appear in a form we can relate to, but “More commonly, though, the Stone’s Oversoul appears just as some kind of ‘energy’”, and it may direct the healing or do it itself.13
Why are the Stone People so hard to relate to? #
Because everything about them is so far from Human. “Remember, being able to grok something means being able to resonate with it. It means being able to match its frequency, mirror it”, and Stone’s sense of time and kind of awareness are the furthest of all from ours.14 Most modern humans, “trapped as they are in their human-centric world view, struggle to even recognise the Stone People as conscious at all, as their consciousness is so far away from Human.” See How do humans communicate and build relationships with the other-than-human Peoples?
Are human-made things Stone People too? #
Their materials are. A mobile phone is made of chemical elements, which are Stone People, but the stories that make it a phone, its brand and model, are human-made and belong to the middle-world: “In the Lower-World, there is no ‘Mobile Phone’ Story.” That does not make made things dead: “It is important to remember that this does not make them any less alive.”15
How do people work with the Stone People? #
By journeying to meet a Stone’s Oversoul, by researching it, and by spending time with the land. Finding Your Deep Soul includes an exercise for getting to know a Crystal Oversoul. Making an essence transfers the healing properties of a Plant or Stone into water.16 Mountains, lakes, waterfalls and the sea are Stone People too, so time with a landscape is time with the Stone People.
